Homemade Hocus Pocus Cookies

Last week, I kicked off October with a homemade Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew and my answer to a Pumpkin Muffin from Dunkin. I wanted to show you that you can enjoy seasonal treats without having to sacrifice your low waste ideals or shelling out $5 for a cup of coffee.

This week, I’m continuing the series by making my own Hocus Pocus cookies.

Low Waste Baking

**last updated 10/08/20. This will be continuously updated as I try new ingredients or discover more items. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Ok, let’s talk Low Waste baking. Overall, baking lends itself fairly well to low-waste. A lot of what you can purchase is already kept in eco-friendly packaging or there are easy swaps available.

Mouthwash Tabs Review: Bite

As someone who has had a lifetime of unpleasant dentist office experiences, I wasn’t really sure how to approach a zero-waste oral care routine. In fact, I’m still working it out. Each night, as I begrudgingly floss with the cursed traditional dental floss (refillable, in a glass tube) instead of my floss picks, I wonder if this is the best swap out there for clean teeth.

Fortunately, mouthwash was a much easier swap than floss for me and has involved significantly less cursing. Right now I am using Bite Mouthwash Bits. Clink the link for the review:

Leaf Razor Product Review

I went to go post this review and found, to my frustration, that a number of pictures I have taken over the past year of the low waste products I’ve purchased have disappeared. Not cool! I like to try stuff out and really get a feel for them before reviewing them so I tend to have pictures hoarded on my phone for a while. Or, I thought I did! For instance, I purchased my shave kit from The Package Free Shop back in February and made sure to take pictures right when everything arrived (without plastic packaging! Always a plus!!) and when it was all shiny and new. Now, everything is significantly less shiny and new but alas, here I am taking pictures for you. *deep sigh* One day, I’ll get better at this. Until then, please forgive the less than pristine condition of my shaving kit.

Meal Prep Monday, August 3

I didn’t post anything last week for Meap Prep Monday as I’m trying to get a bit ahead with my meal preps. Normally, I’ll meal prep Sunday or Monday and then post it right away on Monday. That doesn’t give me a lot of time to try out the recipes (though I definitely sample as I cook!) and take pictures. For this post, I’ll share with you what I meal prepped last week. It gave me a little more time to try things out.

Who Gives a Crap Toilet Paper

When making low waste swaps, some things are harder than others. Finding a good deodorant that works with your body AND comes in sustainable packaging? Hard. Finding toilet paper that ISN’T wrapped in non-recyclable plastic? So, so easy. Get comfy because we are going to talk way more about toilet paper then I’m sure you ever thought you would!

Monday Meal Prep- July 20

Another week, another meal prep.

Last week, I got the news that I will be officially, 100% furloughed, which isn’t great but unfortunately, not that surprising when you work in travel. When countries are literally banning you from visiting, it makes it a little difficult to maintain your job planning international trips. Please wear a mask so we can get this virus under control and I can get back to work and we can all get back to traveling the world.

Lush Company Review

Since moving toward a low-waste lifestyle, I have been trying to shop local and shop small. Lush, unfortunately, does not fit that bill but they are one of the first companies that I fell in love with when I was switching to all-natural products several years back. Throughout the years, they have made continuous strides to lessen the waste that they offer including taking back their packaging for reuse and offering “naked” products like shampoos, conditioners, solid moisturizers and soaps. The real reason I’m featuring them, though, is that they have brick and mortar stores with an incredibly helpful staff. I think when you are starting on a low waste journey, or are looking for products with cleaner ingredients, it can be really intimidating. Instead of scrolling through pages on line, you can talk to real people about what your looking for and get recommendations.

Small Business Spotlight: Cleenland

Hello, everyone! Most of us are on week 2-ish of being isolated. I hope everyone is still healthy and sane.

Today, I wanted to start something I have been mulling over since before I launched Trees & Honeybees- Small Business Spotlight. I think helping to support small businesses is so important. I truly believe we vote with our dollars and if we continue to support small businesses, especially ones that are making efforts to promote sustainability and remain eco-friendly, people will take notice.
